WP 2. Assessment of formal and informal mechanisms of integration

  • Semi-structured in-depth interviews with Syrian refugee youth

Through in-depth interviews, we will collect data to reveal the actual mechanisms of integration of Syrian refugee youth in Turkey. The sample includes interviews with twenty refugee youth from each of the five locations (total 100 interviews) and reflects the diversity within Syrian youth in terms of ethnicity, social class, gender and age group. These interviews will be semi-structured and open-ended.

  • Semi-structured in-depth interviews with Syrian refugee youth in U.K.

The LSE team will undertake a series of 20-25 interviews, depending on access, with refugees currently seeking asylum in the U.K. who haved lived for some time in Turkey. Interviews will ask about refugees’ journeys and overall well-being, but they will specifically focus on experiences in Turkey and reasons for leaving the country.

  • Ethnographic Fieldwork

This ethnographic fieldwork will be important to contextualise the structured and semi-structured interviews.
